Our first stop on our visit to Vietnam and Southeast Asia was Ho Chi Minh City. Our Adventures By Disney tour booked us a room at the Park Hyatt Saigon. Since we arrived a day before our tour started, to acclimate to the time change, I booked an additional night using the American Express Fine Hotels & Resorts website.
During our trip, we stayed at several luxury hotels, starting with the Park Hyatt Saigon. This hotel is situated in the bustling heart of Ho Chi Minh City and is conveniently close to many popular attractions. Once we learned how to navigate walking across the street, we were able to walk to the nearby Notre Dame Cathedral, the Central Post Office, and the Reunification Palace.

After a long journey from Orlando to Los Angeles to Singapore and, finally, to Ho Chi Minh City, all we wanted was a comfortable bed and a refreshing shower. With 245 rooms and suites, the Park Hyatt Saigon offers plush bedding, marble bathrooms, and floor-to-ceiling windows that provide stunning views of the city.
But first, we needed to check-in.
As soon as we walked through the grand entrance adorned with crystal chandeliers, we could tell that we had entered a sophisticated atmosphere. I contacted the hotel in advance to let them know our first-night stay was to be combined with our reservation from Disney for the next two nights. This was handled seamlessly and the hotel combined our folio.
Upon check-in, the front desk agent provided me with the perks we’d received from AMEX FH&R, which included daily breakfast at the Opera Restaurant and a $100 USD property credit. We also received the early check-in benefit as we were taken directly to our room at 1 p.m. (Check-in time is usually 3 p.m.)
Even the elevator lobby on each floor had a sense of elegance, with chairs to sit in while waiting.
I don’t think we received an upgraded room, but I wasn’t expecting one since we were combining our stay with the group rate for the next two nights. Our room was a short walk down the hall and we did get a Garden View.
Entering the room, we had a king-size bed with dual nightstands. There was a sitting area by the window, with two chairs and a welcome amenity. The dresser in the corner had a Nespresso coffee machine.
There was a desk that felt more designed for writing hand-written notes than for working on a laptop. In addition, I don’t think we’ve stayed anywhere with as many furniture styles in one hotel room since the Goldener Hirsch in Austria.
There are dual entrances to the bathroom from the hallway and the bedroom.
The wardrobe also has openings from both the entryway and the bathroom.
The bathroom has so much marble. We did enjoy all of the counter space. Little did we know it would be a premium at most other hotels on the trip.
The shower and bath were in a separate area, similar to what we’d experienced in Japan.
We had a nice view of the hotel courtyard and pool from our room.
We did have some problems during our stay. The main issue was that when we arrived at the room, we discovered that although we had a working converter and adapter, most of the electric outlets were inoperable. We found one working plug near the coffeemaker but that wasn’t enough to charge all of our devices. The next morning, we reported the problem to the front desk as we went to breakfast. When we returned to the room, there was a maintenance crew in our room working on a panel in the ceiling. We spent some time walking around the hotel and when we got back to the room, every outlet was working.
We ate several meals at the hotel restaurants and I was so impressed with the food that I’m going to write another post just about that.
We didn’t get a chance to visit the pool but it didn’t look busy during our stay.
Final Thought
The Park Hyatt Saigon checked all of the luxury hotel boxes. The hotel was spotless. The staff was professional, helpful and friendly. Bar and restaurant outlets were elegant and the food and drinks were amazing. Problems were dealt with quickly and with minimal disruption.
I can’t fault the hotel for anything during our stay. The only downside was that Ho Chi Minh City was our least favorite place to visit in Vietnam. While this isn’t the fault of the hotel, it did diminish how much we liked the hotel. Our opinion would have been different if the hotel had been located somewhere else.

My wife and I stayed at the Park Hyatt Saigon this March and I can echo your positive impressions. The food was fantastic (especially if you stuck to the Vietnamese menu) with one of the best banh mi I have ever had. Service was attentive but not obnoxious. The pool area was great, with a specialty cocktail available. When we weren’t walking, the concierge was perfect for arranging our travels. We were quite pleased with our 4 day stay. Highly recommended!
You ate at the hotel restaurants? What a waste. Saigon is amazing…especially if you walk literally any direction from the Park Hyatt Saigon. I’ve stayed there twice in the last year. Saigon is my favorite place in Vietnam, so I guess we have different interests. I couldn’t bring myself to even drink the coffee there, because of the great cafe just across the street. I agree with you about the hotel. It’s a very nice hotel, and it has a very nice atmosphere. I loved coming back in the early afternoon for a short break before heading back out for more culinary adventures.

Did you look around the city much? My wife and I hired a driver and guide (where I messed up a bit by missing a zero in my calculations) that showed us around and we really enjoyed the tour. I walked around the hotel’s neighborhood and was less impressed even though it was a nice area.
