American AAdvantage Is Giving Away Miles To Add Co-Brand Card To Profile

by joeheg

It’s difficult for airlines to get customers to sign up for a co-brand credit card and even harder to get them to use the card. While signing up for a co-brand card will provide benefits with the airline similar to those offered to frequent flyers, it’s not usually a good idea to use the card to pay for airfare.

One way to increase the chance of someone using a credit card to pay for airfare is if the card is already stored in the person’s frequent flyer account. It’s much easier to pick a card from a dropdown box instead of having to pull a card from your wallet or find it in the card drawer.

American Airlines is trying to get more co-brand cardholders to add the cards to their accounts and is willing to pay some miles for the effort.

Adding your Citi® / AAdvantage® credit card to your wallet will help make bookings quicker and easier, plus you’ll earn 2X miles on eligible American Airlines purchases. For a limited time, we’re awarding you 500 bonus AAdvantage® miles for simply adding your CitiBusiness® / AAdvantage® Platinum Select® Mastercard® credit card to your wallet on either aa.com or in the American Airlines mobile app by November 5, 2021.

Here’s how to earn your miles:

  1. Go to aa.com/wallet and log in if you aren’t already
  2. Click or tap “Add a card”
  3. Input your credit card details, and that’s it! Please allow 6 – 8 weeks for bonus miles to post to your AAdvantage® account

Don’t forget, your Citi® / AAdvantage® credit card comes with other built-in travel benefits including 25% savings on inflight food and beverage purchases on American Airlines flights.

This is a targeted offer so check your inbox or spam filter to see if you’ve received an email.

This exclusive offer is only for members who receive the offer directly from American Airlines, and it is nontransferable. You must add your card to your wallet by 11:59 p.m. CT on November 5, 2021, to receive the 500 bonus AAdvantage® miles. Please allow 6 to 8 weeks for bonus AAdvantage® miles to post to the AAdvantage® member’s account

I followed the link to my wallet and it took less than two minutes to add the card to our AA account.

Just because I added the card doesn’t mean I’m required to use it when booking a flight on AA. I’m able to type in another card for payment, just like I’ve been doing all along. But if American is willing to give me 500 miles just to add the card to my account, why not take advantage of the generosity?
