Buttigieg Pushes Back On Cruise Lines Wanting To Be Treated Like Airlines

by SharonKurheg

The cruise industry has had a tumultuous few weeks. They, along with other travel industries, have put more and more pressure on the CDC to establish a clear path for cruises to one again sail out of U.S. ports.

The CDC finally responded a few days ago, saying that they will be working with the cruise companies so ships can perhaps begin sailing mid-summer, instead of the Nov. 1 date they had been quoting for months under their Conditional Sailing Order.

Meanwhile, on Friday, April 9th, Secretary Pete Buttigieg joined White House spokesperson Jen Psaki in the White House briefing room. He mainly appeared to be there to answer questions about the infrastructure plan that the Biden administration has in mind. However while responding to reporters, he was asked about the resumption of cruises. His response:

The bottom line is safety and I can’t wait for us all to be on the move as much as possible in a safe and responsible way. Airlines have one safety profile, cruise ships have another, vehicles have another, and each one needs to be treated based on what’s safe for that sector. I certainly care a lot about seeing the cruise sector thrive and I know the CDC is hopeful that a lot of these operators will be in a position to be sailing by mid-summer. Laying out the specific gates they need to get through is a very important step towards that. We want to do this as soon as we responsibly can but we also have to make sure that it’s safe.

So there ya go.

Time to let the public make there own decisions. It’s obvious the CDC doesn’t know how to handle this situation, the last thing we need is another worthless politician getting involved

Fortunately, the government knows better than that. 😉
