And in the blink of an eye, we’re already well into the first week of September. Time goes by so quickly! Anyway, here are our most popular posts for August 2019. Some of them were actually written before August (heads up that rules and offers change and we can’t guarantee that those older posts are still accurate), so take a look to make sure you didn’t miss any of the good stuff:
IHG hotel group announced earlier this year that by 2021, they will remove all the miniature toiletries from hotel rooms worldwide and replace them with bulk containers. Many IHG hotel hotels already employ this practice, including many Holiday Inn Express and Candlewood Suites properties.
While I’m OK with the changes, some have a stronger opinion on the subject.
I know I’m not the only one who has a collection of toiletries from various hotels I’ve visited. I’ll even get excited to stay at a specific hotel if I really like the brand of toiletries they use. The news that IHG Hotels is going to remove the small plastic toiletries bottles from all of their hotels and move towards using larger size refillable containers by the end of 2021 was a bit of a shock.
I’m not saying this because I don’t care about the environment and I know these little plastic bottles have to go somewhere. I’m also aware that smaller packaging is much less efficient and results in a larger amount of waste being generated. Taking all of that into account, there’s still going to be a part of me that will miss bringing home some shampoo that will bring back memories of my vacation.
After giving it some thought, I realized that the world’s not going to end over this. Hopefully, it will get to last a little longer if we use less plastic. With a little advance planning, I’ll still be able to enjoy my favorite hotel toiletries at home.
I was looking at a scratch off world map the other day and in comparing different styles and prices, seemed to go down the rabbit hole in Alice in Wonderland as I started looking at all the stuff that’s out there for travelers. Some have been out for forever, some seem to be pretty new. Most (not all) are REALLY cool. Here are some of my favorites:
