When Paying The Check At A Restaurant, I Froze When I Needed To Pull A Card Out Of My Wallet

I guess there are worse problems to have than not knowing which is the best card to pull out of my wallet when paying for a meal. When I went out for dinner with friends last night, we split the check and I needed to choose a card to pay for my share. I saw someone paying with an American Express Gold Card that earns four Membership Rewards per dollar and the other party was paying with a Capital One card that earns 4% cash back. So I needed to make sure my selection showed I know the best way to maximize points earning. I mean, I’m the one at the table who writes about points and miles, right? So why did I freeze and ponder which would be the best card for me to use?

It wasn’t that I didn’t have a card that earned a great return, it was that I had three cards in my wallet that each would earn a good return on the cost of my dinner. Any of them would be a good choice, but which card was the best choice and did I choose wisely?

Restaurant Review: One Flew South, Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport

When I booked our tickets to fly to Chattanooga, TN, the best-priced itinerary included a 3 & 1/2 hour layover in Atlanta. While most travelers would think of this as a major inconvenience, I only had one thing on my mind: I’d finally be able to eat at One Flew South.

I’ve been reading about this restaurant for a while. It has a great reputation with restaurant reviewers and travel bloggers alike and gets 4 1/2 Stars on Yelp!, with almost 1000 reviews to date. It’s also on several “Best of” lists, including the 10 Best Sushi in Atlanta and Best Airport Food in the World. One Flew South refers to itself as “the first upscale dining restaurant in the world’s busiest airport.” Those are pretty big shoes to fill so you may be able to see why I was looking forward to eating there. Remember, I’m partial to Cask & Larder, my hometown airport restaurant and One Flew South set a high bar to impress me.

Our Favorite Places To Eat in Key West

We’ve been to Key West seven times since 2010 (Sharon also went an additional time in 2008). It’s a quick getaway for us, within driving distance or a short flight away. We like going to places we’ve been to before because many of the stresses of traveling are diminished when you know something about where you are. I totally get that some people will be like, “You shouldn’t go back to somewhere you’ve already been. There are so many new places to discover!” I totally agree with that and we do our best to get to new places, too. But we also do our best to revisit places where we’ve had a really good time. It’s like watching a movie you’ve seen or re-reading a book you like; it’s a comfort and you know it will be enjoyable.

One of the nice things of going to a location you’ve been before is that you have a pre-made list of favorites made by the best travel consultant you know – YOU! It’s easy to Continue reading “Our Favorite Places To Eat in Key West”
