DVC Moonlight Magic Event at Disney’s Animal Kingdom (March, 2018)

Joe and I have gone to many Moonlight Magic events for DVC members, several of which we reported here at Your Mileage May Vary:

This visit was a lot of firsts for us, though – it was my friend Scott’s first Moonlight Magic event (Joe wasn’t able to go this evening due to work commitments), it was my first Moonlight Magic event at Disney’s Animal Kingdom, AND it was my first time exploring “Pandoraland” and Avatar Flight of Passage. Here are the highlights of the evening:

2018 DVC Exclusive Moonlight Magic Event at Magic Kingdom (Compared to 2017)

After attending several Moonlight Madness events in 2017 (Magic Kingdom in February, Typhoon Lagoon in July and Epcot in December), we were happy to hear they were going to continue the events into 2018.

Briefly, the Moonlight Madness events are special, after-hours events at Disney parks (they do them at Disneyland, too!) specifically for select members of Disney Vacation Club (DVC) and their guests. DVC, as Disney’s version of a timeshare, can cost significantly less when you purchase points on the secondary market (as opposed to buying them directly from Disney). To make buying DVC points from Disney more valuable, these Moonlight Madness events have been running since 2016 as a perk that’s reserved for those who’ve purchased points directly from them and not from the secondary market.

We were especially looking forward to this event at the Magic Kingdom (MK), since we had been to the 2017 Moonlight Madness event at that park and wanted to see how they had changed from one year to the next. I’m happy to report that Disney did not disappoint!

Our Disneyland Backup Plan, The Best Travel Jacket, Funny Airplane Employee Announcements + More…

Happy Saturday, friends. Sharon’s busy baking the first batch of Christmas cookies for the season, so I’m here writing the weekly recap. I’m not gonna complain because her cookies are really yummy.

Trip Report: Disney Vacation Club Exclusive Moonlight Magic Event At Epcot

Walt Disney World begin their “Moonlight Magic” events in 2016 to celebrate Disney Vacation Club’s (DVC) 25th anniversary. DVC, as Disney’s version of a timeshare, can cost significantly less when you purchase points on the secondary market (as opposed to buying them directly from Disney). To make buying from Disney more valuable, they have continued the Moonlight Magic events into 2017 as a perk that’s reserved for those who’ve purchased points directly from them and not from the secondary market. The plan must be working well for them, because Disney has already announced several more Moonlight Magic events in 2018.

Trip Report: Disney Vacation Club Exclusive Moonlight Magic Event At Typhoon Lagoon

MoonMagWalt Disney World has run a series of “Moonlight Madness” events for Disney Vacation Club (DVC) members for a while now. Joe has been a DVC member since the early 90s (the running joke was that I married him for his points) and after going to and enjoying our time at the Magic Kingdom event in February 2017 (click here for that trip report, as well as a brief history of DVC and how it works), we decided to go to the Typhoon Lagoon event on July 5th. We had gone to a similar event last summer, so we figured it would be a good way to compare last year’s event to this one.

Looking For Off-Property Hotels Around Disneyland When “Plan A” (DVC) Didn’t Work Out

I’ve already documented in a previous article the difficulties I came across when trying to book a room at Disneyland with my DVC points, and now it was time to start looking at Plan B, Plan C and, if needed, Plan D. Now, I don’t have much experience with booking hotels in and around Disneyland. We’ve stayed in the Grand Californian and Disneyland Hotel several times. Going back many years ago, we stayed at the Sheraton Anaheim Hotel (now renamed the Anaheim Majestic Garden Hotel) with a group discount from a theme park message board we helped moderate. On our most recent trip, we stayed at the Sheraton Park Hotel at the Anaheim Resort (that’s a mouthful). It wasn’t my original choice, but I was lucky enough to win a free night during a online contest that had to be Continue reading “Looking For Off-Property Hotels Around Disneyland When “Plan A” (DVC) Didn’t Work Out”
