As our television viewing habits have changed over the decades, so have the commercials we’ve watched. As jingles have given way to CGI and kids who always have a comeback, we no longer get to hear “Wouldn’t you like to be a Pepper, too?” or “I don’t wanna grow up, I’m a Toys R Us kid…” Well, except on YouTube.

When you see a commercial for a product or service – doesn’t matter what it is – they make it sound so wonderful and like it’s going to be such an awesome experience from beginning to end. You know the kinds I mean…the ones for places like dentist offices and used car dealerships. With big smiles and empty suggestions of pain-free everything…mouths, wallets, whatever. Yeah, they drive me nuts.
Anyway, I recently came across this commercial for the most honest airline ever. Unfortunately, it’s not a real company. But they took all the issues of a real airline, added some saccharine sweetness and Disney friendliness to it and, well, the intentional irony of it just made me smile. Maybe it’ll make you smile, too.

There are some Christmas videos and commercials that are timelessly iconic. Coca-Cola’s “I’d Like To Teach The World To Sing” on the hilltop. Norelco’s stop-action Santa sledding down a hill on an electric rotary razor. Hershey’s Kisses playing “We Wish You A Merry Christmas.” For the past several years, WestJet, a low-cost carrier that’s Canada’s second largest airline has done commercials of the annual “Christmas Miracles” they’ve done. All have been heartwarming but this one is, we think, the best they ever did:
