What’s Your Favorite Hotel In San Francisco?

I’m starting to look at travel plans for 2020 and one of the places to go that’s on our list is San Francisco.

We’ve visited many times before. The first few times in town we stayed at bed and breakfast places which were nice but weren’t cheap. The last time we visited, I was able to book a points & cash rate with Starwood at The Palace Hotel, part of the Luxury Collection.

While it was a very nice hotel, we’re always looking for new places to stay.

What’s The Strangest Thing You’ve Seen In A Hotel Room?

Most hotel stays are uneventful and that’s a good thing. Occasionally you’ll have a memorable stay at a really nice place and other times you’ll endure a night somewhere that “did not live up to expectations” and that’s life.

Sometimes you win and find a hotel like Chambers Park Place in Leeds, UK

Other times you end up staying at the Holiday Inn Kensington Forum in London, UK – just look at that modern telly, the spacious beds and the 12″ of space between the two. At least the TV worked during our second stay. Yes, we stayed there more than once. Totally not our fault – it was part of a package arrangement when we sang at the Royal Albert Hall.

However, there can also be that hotel you remember for that ONE thing that made it, different or unique or just flat out weird. I’m not talking about cultural differences like a bidet or tea kettle. I’m talking about things you’ve never seen before.

With some contributions from our friend Steve, here are some of the things we’ve found in hotel rooms that to this day make us scratch our heads in bewilderment.

How to Donate Your Miles and Points to Support Hurricane Dorian Victims

I know watching the news stories about the devastation in the Bahamas caused by Hurricane Dorian can make you feel helpless. After a while, you just feel numb and you want to do something, do anything, but don’t know how you can help.

Luckily, most of the airline and hotel programs are making it easy to contribute in any way you can. Even if you don’t have the cash to spare, you can donate those random points you have here and there to the recovery effort. Even better, you can donate points if you have more of them than you know what to do with. Face it, it’s better to donate them than redeem them for some magazines that you’ll never read, overpriced luggage or an Amazon InstaPot.  Continue reading “How to Donate Your Miles and Points to Support Hurricane Dorian Victims”

Where Can You Stay Near Universal Orlando With Points?

The Universal Orlando Resort has become its own vacation destination, with three theme parks (well, two theme parks and a water park), a shopping and dining district and a slew of on (and slightly off) property hotels. If you’re a Harry Potter fan or are totally into Halloween Horror Nights, finding the closest hotel to Universal Orlando might be crucial to your vacation plans.

Here’s a list of places you’re able to stay near Universal Orlando using your hotel program points (or free night certificates) to pay for the room:

Points Are Finally Posting From This Promotion – Better Late Than Never

Back in November 2018, Stephen from Frequent Miler shared a post about a Choice Privileges contest called, “Book. Spin. Win.” While the contest offered an entry to everyone who booked a hotel stay through the Choice mobile app, you could also get a free entry without booking a hotel stay. Prizes ranged from 200 to 3,000 Choice Privileges points.  Free points are free points, so I entered.
