A Visit To TWO Wigwam Motels!

When Joe and I were planning our big Route 66 trip for last autumn, we had intentions to stay at the Wigwam Motel in Holbrook, AZ because, well, could you really see us NOT staying at a wigwam motel if we had the opportunity? As it turned out, the Route 66 trip turned into a generalized “American Southwest” trip, with stops in Phoenix, Sedona, the Grand Canyon, Las Vegas, Disneyland and Hollywood. We think it was a smart decision based on the things we like. However with that itinerary change, no wigwams. Sigh.

BUT! All was not lost!

A New Water Park Is Coming To The Central Florida Area!

About 6 or 7 months after the first rumors started to come out, Tavistock Development Company and WiBit Sport have finally officially announced that the Central Florida region will be getting a new water park next summer!

Our Visit To The Star Wars Themed Scum and Villainy Cantina in Los Angeles

You will never find a more wretched hive of scum and villainy.
We must be cautious. – Obi Wan (Ben) Kenobi

Ever since I first saw the Facebook page from the Scum and Villainy Cantina Pop-up bar in Los Angeles, I was convinced I wanted to go. To my surprise, Sharon was interested in going as well.

At first, the location was only selling tickets for two months and you needed to purchase admission in advance and then reserve the date you wanted to go. Living on the other side of the continent, I just couldn’t make a trip there on a whim. I kept following their website and their Twitter and Instagram feeds, hoping for more information. First they extended for a month, and then another. I knew this pattern…they were following the Sleep No More playbook where the event says they’ll be open for a limited time so you are made to feel the need to attend now before they close, and then they extend and extend. I kept hoping it would continue.

Tickets On Sale Now For Museum of Ice Cream

Screen Shot 2017-12-07 at 10.04.14 PM.pngThe Museum of Ice cream is a pop up that has been taking Instagram by storm since mid-2016 (so far about 100,000 posts have included the hashtag #MuseumOfIceCream). An interactive (hello, 5 sense INCLUDING taste!) exhibit that celebrates all that is cold, sweet and creamy, it’s opened in New York, Los Angeles and San Francisco (oftentimes with frequent extensions of how long it stays open – as of this writing, Los Angeles will stay open into this month and San Francisco will now remain open until February 2018) and the newest installation is opening next week!

Extended Black Friday Deals, Secret Passwords For Free Stuff, & More…

From how to not lose your credit card points to a cool “buy one, get one free” deal, here are some stories we saw this week that we thought were interesting. We hope you will, too:

  • Many Black Friday hotel deals are actually good through Cyber Monday
Here’s a master list of all of them, thanks to Deals We Like.
  • We loved our stay at the Kimpton in Chicago. If you’re staying at one of their properties this winter, be sure to give the secret password when checking in for some extra goodies. Check out BaldThoughts for all the info!
  • We’ve read about the most luxurious hotel spas, bathrooms, pools, bedrooms, and lounges but maybe you’re grasping for material when you write about the most luxurious closet. Take a look at Oyster.com for all the closety goodness.
  • If you’re really into miles and points, going to a Frequent Traveler University is the way to take it to the next level. The next one was just announced for Seattle in February and if you decide to go, I’ll see you there. As per Rapid Travel Chai, hey have a Black Friday special going for this weekend, giving you $30 off.
  • View From The Wing gave a great report on the survey that American Airlines did with all of their employees. As someone who is familiar with this type of workplace survey. I’m surprised American did as well as they did.
  • If you know us at all, you can bet we bookmarked this link about quirky museums from The Points Guys for our travels!
  • I was sad to read on Wandr that Eastern Airlines is going away (again). At least we got to fly them to Cuba last year.
  • Just another reason why Canadians are cooler than Americans. They know how to handle a flight delay. Thanks to One Mile At A Time for sharing!
  • One concept that people fail to grasp is that if you cancel a credit card, you need to make sure that you don’t lose your points. Here’s a post from Frequent Miler that tells you what to do for the three major banks.
  • This deal that Doctor of Credit reported may still be available with Chase Pay to get “buy one, get one” movie tickets. I thought it was a such a good deal that it was what I groggily told Sharon about when I woke up from anesthesia.
  • We saw this in-airport flu clinic when we flew from O’Hare this weekend, and now No Mas Coach reported on it. If you haven’t gotten one yet, get your flu shot!
