It’s the beginning of September and that means it’s time for National Car Rental’s One Two Free promotion. While there are some who feel this is the rental car promotion of the year, I like to take a closer look at what’s being offered. This year, the promotion is very similar to the one they offered in 2018 and in 2017. In other words, if it’s not broken, don’t try to fix it.
To sign up for the promotion, you need to be a National Emerald Club member. If you’re not, check out our post on how to sign up for the programs for all the major US car rental companies.
Once you sign up, or if you were already a National Emerald Club member, here’s the sign-up link for the promotion.
So what is National offering with One Two Free and what are you giving away when you choose to take advantage of this promotion?

Earning points and miles to reach your travel goals is hard work. It doesn’t matter if you earn them through signing up for credit cards, flying on airplanes, staying in hotels or even if you write out and send in 188 postcards. All of these actions take time and effort. The last thing you want to happen is to have your account go inactive and your balances zeroed out.
Depending on the program, you’ll lose all your points if you don’t have any qualifying activity within a certain time frame that can vary from three years to just THREE MONTHS!! Using a website, such as AwardWallet, helps keep things organized so you know when points will expire. There will be times when you won’t have a flight on a particular airline or a stay at a specific hotel chain planned before your points will disappear. All is not lost though, because there are many other ways to keep your accounts active. Here are two of my favorite ways to have some account activity and keep from losing my points. However, I need to add some additional information. You also need to keep your account information up to date once you sign up or you might end up earning points you don’t really want to earn.
Let me explain.

You know the questions you’ll going to be asked at the counter when renting a car. Do you want to upgrade to a larger/nicer/fancier car? How about the insurance coverage? Do you want the navigation system? Do you want to opt in to their toll program? Lastly, you’ll get the pitch to prepay for the gas. It sounds like a good idea. The price they’re showing is pretty decent and it’s much lower than the amount they’ll charge you if you don’t bring it back full. Should you go for it????
