And all of a sudden, BOOM, it’s a new year! I know we’re all hoping 2018 will be better than 2017. Meanwhile, here is a quick recap of the posts we wrote this week:

How To Get Discounted Disney Tickets From Your Employer

Getting discounted tickets to Disney theme parks is pretty hard to do. We’ve written about some of the ways you can get legitimate reduced price tickets as well as listed the things you shouldn’t do. Imagine how surprised I was that one perfectly legal and ethical way to get cheaper theme park tickets was right under my nose; I could get them from my employer.

Now I’m not talking about the golden days of the long-gone Magic Kingdom Club program, where you could get discounted Disney World hotel packages with park tickets, dining tickets and entertainment vouchers for huge discounts. It’s been over fifteen years since that program was eliminated and I missed it so much when it went away.

Free Flights To Australia, “Leaked” 2018 Starwood Promotions, & Other Posts We Liked

From getting the OK to steal something from the plane, to how Uber & Lyft are cutting into airport profits, to some of the coolest lazy rivers anywhere, here are some stories we saw this week that we thought were interesting. We hope you will, too:

  • If you want to “steal” the salt and pepper shakers from Virgin Atlantic, The Points Guy is reporting that this week they say it’s OK. Happy holiday season!
  • View From The Wing wrote that if your name is Sydney or Houston, United may fly you to Australia for free.
  • Protect your valuables when traveling, especially in South America, because Loyalty Lobby reports that your phone could be stolen from right out of your hand.
  • Sharon and I love lazy river rides. Here’s a list of Hyatt resorts, compiled by Mommy Points, that have some great ones (and some even have Flowriders!).
  • The New York Times is reporting that ridesharing services such as Uber and Lyft are cutting into airport profits by reducing the number of people parking at the airport (apparently they haven’t checked out the parking situation at MCO recently).
  • Some details of the Starwood promotion for 2018 “leaked” this week, as per One Mile At A Time.
  • Pizza In Motion wrote about a new Google Maps enhancement that will be awesome for travelers. Problem for me is I might be a little too OCD to trust it. 😉
  • I know of friends who have MoviePass and love it. Frequent Miler wrote about a great deal on a MoviePass membership from Costco.
  • I never got into collecting Plenti points but as per Travel Codex, it looks as if the program’s days are numbered.
  • Traveling the world sounds exciting, but remember that you may be caught on a remote tropical island when the once-a-week plane is cancelled. It happened to Rapid Travel Chai.

JetBlue’s Policy Changes, Star Wars Filming Sites Vacations + More…

From an historic hotel’s renovations, to a fun way to get priority boarding, here are some stories we saw this week that we thought were interesting. We hope you will, too:

There are several articles that talked about Christmas this week:

  • The Points Guy showed cities around the world with the most extravagant Christmas light displays.
  • Want to know how to get priority boarding by wearing your ugly Christmas sweater? One Mile at a Time can tell you!
  • Travel and Leisure wrote about how the entire country of New Zealand has an official Secret Santa program.

And in the non-holiday category…

  • Read Doctor of Credit to find out how you can get two entries a day into the Starbucks for Life promotion (Joe’s been doing this daily).
  • Speaking up about problems might get you some extra points or miles and Million Miles Secrets shared a story about that.
  • Joe had the same problem as Frequent Miler with the current AMEX offer with Google Express but he found a solution.
  • Loyalty Lobby wrote about the renovations to the Waldorf=Astoria in New York. It’s been closed for almost a year (right after our visit in early 2016) and they are finally ready to start.
  • Delta/Air France/KLM has new luggage-less transatlantic fares, as per View From The Wing.
  • Deals We Like reported that JetBlue is making big changes to their refund and stand-by policies and they’re not to to the customers’ benefit.

Extended Black Friday Deals, Secret Passwords For Free Stuff, & More…

From how to not lose your credit card points to a cool “buy one, get one free” deal, here are some stories we saw this week that we thought were interesting. We hope you will, too:

  • Many Black Friday hotel deals are actually good through Cyber Monday
Here’s a master list of all of them, thanks to Deals We Like.
  • We loved our stay at the Kimpton in Chicago. If you’re staying at one of their properties this winter, be sure to give the secret password when checking in for some extra goodies. Check out BaldThoughts for all the info!
  • We’ve read about the most luxurious hotel spas, bathrooms, pools, bedrooms, and lounges but maybe you’re grasping for material when you write about the most luxurious closet. Take a look at Oyster.com for all the closety goodness.
  • If you’re really into miles and points, going to a Frequent Traveler University is the way to take it to the next level. The next one was just announced for Seattle in February and if you decide to go, I’ll see you there. As per Rapid Travel Chai, hey have a Black Friday special going for this weekend, giving you $30 off.
  • View From The Wing gave a great report on the survey that American Airlines did with all of their employees. As someone who is familiar with this type of workplace survey. I’m surprised American did as well as they did.
  • If you know us at all, you can bet we bookmarked this link about quirky museums from The Points Guys for our travels!
  • I was sad to read on Wandr that Eastern Airlines is going away (again). At least we got to fly them to Cuba last year.
  • Just another reason why Canadians are cooler than Americans. They know how to handle a flight delay. Thanks to One Mile At A Time for sharing!
  • One concept that people fail to grasp is that if you cancel a credit card, you need to make sure that you don’t lose your points. Here’s a post from Frequent Miler that tells you what to do for the three major banks.
  • This deal that Doctor of Credit reported may still be available with Chase Pay to get “buy one, get one” movie tickets. I thought it was a such a good deal that it was what I groggily told Sharon about when I woke up from anesthesia.
  • We saw this in-airport flu clinic when we flew from O’Hare this weekend, and now No Mas Coach reported on it. If you haven’t gotten one yet, get your flu shot!

An Easy Way To Get 300 Bonus Stars from Starbucks (That’s Enough For 2 Free Items!)

I’m a Starbucks person. I love drinking my first Pumpkin Spice Latte of the season (but only when the temperature drops below 60F.). When I’m working a morning shift, a stop at the Starbucks for a coffee and breakfast sandwich is going to happen. The baristas even left me a note on my coffee on the last day before I changed work locations.

So when Starbucks is willing to give away 300 stars in the Starbucks Rewards program, they have my attention. Since you can redeem 125 stars for a free drink or food item, this offer is like getting $10 – $20 back. Unlike some of their recent promotions that wanted me to change my behavior (Like the one that was offering me 50 stars if I stopped in on a weekday between 2-5PM for 5 days in a row. Yeah, not gonna happen), this one is rewarding me for something I’m going to do anyway.
