Venture X Cardholders – Don’t Forget To Activate Hertz President Circle Status

by joeheg

The Venture X card from Capital One provides several perks for travelers. Some overlap other mid-range to luxury cards, such as Priority Pass club access and TSA Precheck/Global Entry reimbursement. However, there is one benefit of the Venture X that you’ll only find with one other luxury travel card – complimentary Hertz President’s Circle membership.

This is Hertz’s top-tier status and usually requires 15 rentals or spending $3000.

Capital One didn’t proactively remind me to activate my status and it took a few clicks on the website to find out how to do it. These directions are for a desktop, although I’d think the process is similar on mobile devices.

Once logged into your account,  click on the Redeem button in the Explore Rewards tab.

Then you need to click on the Discover Travel tab.

Here’s where you’ll find a list of all the benefits the Venture X card offers. Click on the Hertz President’s Circle status.

That’s where you’ll be able to register for President’s Circle status by entering your account information. Make sure your name and email exactly match your existing Hertz account information. If you don’t already have a Hertz account, you can create one via the link.

I immediately received a message saying my account was verified and my status would update within 24-72 hours.

It took a few days before my new status showed up on my account but Hertz immediately added the Capital One Venture X discount code. By default, it was flagged as the primary discount. I needed to go back and put my corporate discount as the primary code to use when booking with Hertz, as I’ve found better rates using that than any other discounts available.

While the rental process isn’t different from if you have Five-Star status, you do get a better selection of cars at the airport. Right now, I’m happy if they have any cars at all when I show up at the airport.

Also, don’t forget to lawyer up before you rent from Hertz. From a case in Delaware:

PRELIMINARY STATEMENT5

1. For years, The Hertz Corporation (together with its affiliates, collectively, “Hertz”
or the “Debtors”) has been falsely reporting its customers for car theft, throwing them in jail on
felony charges, prosecuting them, burdening them with criminal records that impact their
livelihoods, and separating them from their family and loved ones. But in each case, there was no
theft.

@Brutus, was about to say the same thing. Reading their stories of what happened to them is horrifying!

This is the worst advice of the week. Nobody should be renting from Hertz until they stop having customers arrested on false stolen vehicle reports.

I picked up a rental with Hertz as a PC member at VPS today and the status benefits were underwhelming to say the least. I was pretty much offered the car I reserved and anything else was an up charge. Not an awful experience but not one worth repeating.

Agree with the above posters. Hertz has earned (and kept) their bad reputation for several years. No one likes getting arrested for mistaken/bogus reasons. Shame on Hertz.
