AMEX Green Card Now Pays For Two CLEAR Memberships

by joeheg

The American Express Green Card was a forgotten member of the charge card line for many years. It’s understandable if you stopped paying attention to it in favor of the flashier Gold or Platinum cards.

It’s time to stop sleeping on the AMEX Green card. In fact, this is one card that pays you to have it. Well, that is. if you’re already paying for a CLEAR membership.

American Express just increased the CLEAR statement credit on the Green Card from $100 to $189 a year. This is enough to cover 1 full-price membership every year.

Not taking into consideration the value of a CLEAR membership, for many travelers, it’s a huge time saver and worth the yearly membership fee.

As a quick reminder, no one should pay full price for CLEAR since having a Delta SkyMiles or United MileagePlus account will automatically drop the price from $189 to $119.

An additional perk of CLEAR is that you can add up to three additional adults to your account for $60 each. They don’t have to be family members, as you can add anyone to your account (with their permission, of course).

That means two people can get the total $179 fee reimbursed by the credit from the Green Card, which only costs $150 per year.

In this case, I’ll admit that the Green Card pays you to keep it every year. For me, I view it as payback for Sharon forcing me to keep the card just because she had the account number memorized, way back when it only earned 1 Membership Rewards point per dollar spent.
