Hotel Review: La Quinta Inn & Suites By Wyndham New Braunfels, TX

by joeheg

We’ve stayed at many hotels and B&Bs in New Braunfels, Texas over the years and our current favorite place to stay is the riverside Courtyard by Marriott.

But when I needed to add a single night to our trip, the Courtyard was at capacity and the only available room was going for $400. In fact, every hotel in the area was mondo expensive for a Saturday night in August.

I found a room at the same La Quinta that we used to stay at over 10 years ago. The discounted price for a base king room was $200 but instead, I paid 15,000 Wyndham Rewards points for a larger “Deluxe Suite”.

The last time we stayed at this hotel I said on my TripAdvisor review that it was a bit run down. The hotel manager replied and said the hotel was due for a refresh. I’m not sure when it happened, but they were true to their word and hotel looks much better than during our last stay.

Entering the front door, you’re in the lobby area. There’s a photo of the nearby river behind the desk. This is far from the avocado color scheme I remembered.

Next to the front desk was the grab-and-go snack area.

To the left of the desk was the “business center.” It wasn’t much, but sufficient to print a boarding pass for a flight.

For my one-night stay, I was given a deluxe suite on the ground floor towards the end of the building.

On entering the room, I saw it was quite large and had tall ceilings, which I remembered from our previous stays.

There was a king-size bed with plenty of pillows. On the wall were photos of local landmarks, which was a nice touch.

The TV was on top of the refrigerator/microwave cabinet. It wasn’t very large but you could turn it to point toward the bed or the living area. Next to that was the dresser with the coffee maker on top.

There was a work area with a desk, chair, dedicated lamp, and power outlet.

The rest of the room was the “living area” with two chairs.

For what it was, the room was perfectly fine. What else do you expect from a La Quinta?

The bathroom was basic, with a tub/shower combo.

The La Quinta serves complimentary breakfast every morning.

There’s a spacious seating area for the size of the hotel, but I think it could get crowded if the hotel was at capacity.

I found the Texas-shaped waffle iron to be a nice touch.

While I didn’t see anyone using it, the hotel also had a fitness room.

Final Thoughts

Before Sharon and I got into points and miles, this La Quinta was the type of place we stayed for most of our travels. While all it offers is a clean room, that’s all we need for most trips. While I’ve found ways to stretch our money a bit further to stay at places with better views and a pool/hot tub, it’s not a requirement for us to enjoy our trip. Most of the time, all we’re looking for is a place to sleep and keep our stuff.

If the price is right, I’d be fine if we stayed here again on our next trip to New Braunfels.
