Hotel Review: Staybridge Suites Plano (Dallas) – Legacy West Area, Plano, TX

by joeheg

The main reason for our visit to Dallas, TX was to reconnect with friends and family. If you haven’t done so, it’s a great thing to do when you’re traveling. We flew into Dallas Love Field on Southwest and while we could have stayed somewhere in downtown Dallas, that’s not where our friends lived.

Instead, we chose a hotel nearer to them and decided on the Staybridge Suites in Plano since we’d be able to stay for free using our free night certificates from our IHG co-brand credit cards.

Located in Plano, TX, the hotel is minutes from the Legacy West shopping district and Comerica Center, the home of the Dallas Stars NHL hockey team. Without knowing that, you’d think this is any other IHG hotel located in the middle of a business complex, providing rooms to businesspeople working on short to mid-term contract jobs.

We arrived late in the day after having dinner at a fantastic restaurant outside of Dallas that we would have never found on our own. When we entered the lobby, a single agent was working the evening shift. She welcomed us to the hotel and linked our two one-night reservations so we didn’t need to move rooms.

We were given a room on the 1st floor toward the end of the hotel.

We had to round a corner to find our room, 101.

Entering the room, we got a lay of the land. There was plenty of space for our two-night stay. As usual with an extended stay hotel, we entered the kitchen area with a full-size fridge, sink, dishwasher, cooktop and coffee maker.

There was also a sectional couch with an ottoman across from the bed. There was the appearance of separation of the kitchen from the living/sleeping area which isn’t always the case with extended-stay hotels.

Here’s a better idea of the room layout, including the king-size bed and the kitchen’s proximity to the bed. The darkened hallway is the bathroom. I can’t explain the location of the TV on the cabinet to the left as it’s not conducive for viewing from either the couch or the bed.

The bathroom had an outer room with a sink.

Opposite the sink was a large closet and the in-room safe (which isn’t safe).

The bathroom had a shower/tub combo, wall-mounted soap and shampoo dispensers, and a basic toilet.

The room was everything we’d need for a quick stay. It was nice to have a full-sized fridge to stash some refreshments, as this was only the first stop on our trip.

Hotel Amenities

The Staybridge Suites had a decent fitness center with a selection of machines and free weights. a room with exercise equipment

There was an above-average outdoor space with shaded areas and a grill which would be nice if you’re staying here for a while and just wanted to cook some burgers or a steak.

In addition, there was a generic pool area that was clean.

There was a basic business center area with two PCs and a printer. I liked how one area was raised and the other on a lower desk, assumably for accessibility.

The main lobby has a large sitting area adjacent to the breakfast bar.

We never got a chance to try the breakfast buffet but it seemed to meet the brand standard with coffee and plenty of starchy foods.

There were also some hot dishes, presumably for eggs and breakfast meats (and possibly potatoes).

Unfortunately, the waffle maker was out of service for the duration of our stay.

If you wanted more starches, you could always partake in the Quaker Oatmeal, the staple of a traveler’s diet.

Final Thoughts

While I’m sure there were more glamorous locations to stay in while in Dallas, they weren’t close to where we needed to be. Instead, we picked a satisfactory hotel within a 15-minute drive of everything we needed to do, which, from what I understand, is almost impossible to do in the Dallas area. Being able to use two free nights from our IHG credit cards that cost $49 each was a bonus.
