Some people just shouldn’t be travel planners.
Kylie Keefe was going on vacation in the Adirondacks with her father JJ, step-mom Erika, brother Aiden, and the family’s 2 Labradoodles. Aiden was going to go to St. Lawrence University in Canton NY, about an hour away, so the foursome (well, sextet, with the dogs), were making it a family trip from their home in Massachusetts.
They decided to stay in the Adirondacks for two nights. JJ was in charge of making reservations. Unfortunately, the local Best Western was full, so JJ turned to VBRO, where he found a listing for a tiny house with a “queen bed in the loft and 2 sleep chairs downstairs.”
This memorable tiny house is anything but ordinary! Have you ever wanted to try living in a tiny house? This is your chance for an amazing experience with our cozy, comfortable tiny house that has just about EVERYTHING you need! The tiny house has a queen bed in the loft and 2 sleeper chairs downstairs. There is a full bathroom with full plumbing, too! Feel like staying in for dinner? We’ve got you covered! Full kitchen setup with a stove plate, microwave, and counter space to prep, enjoy!
Not only is the tiny house nice and cozy, but it is situated on a large enclosed field providing private access to the field behind the tiny house for badminton and volleyball along with yard games to keep the kids busy! There is also a firepit with wood for guest use in this field. The tiny house has everything you could need to stay from towels and bed linens/blankets to cooking equipment. Need local tips for local eats or healthcare? That’s all provided in the guidebook left for you on the kitchen counter. Enjoy some relaxation or get your adventure on with surrounding trails!
Guests have full and private access to the tiny house, driveway, and field behind the tiny house that has a picnic table, propane grill, and a firepit.
The tiny house had three 5-star ratings in the short time it had been listed. At an average of $88 per night, JJ thought that would be perfect for the 4 of them for 2 nights, right?
Wrong. Very, very wrong.
This tiny house was TINY. Like, 240 square feet tiny. A typical 2 or 3-star hotel room is usually at least 300 square feet. More, if it has 2 beds in it. Those 60+ feet would make all the difference in the world.
So they get to their accommodations, and the younger 2 Keefes just LOSE IT. Here’s Kylie’s TikTok of the first time she and Aiden see the house (Heads up: NSFW – adult language).
The video has millions upon millions of views and over 31 thousand people commented. LOTS of them wanted a tour of the house; Erika was happy to oblige.
Reply to @sophia.desousa here is your long awaited tour of the tiny home from my stepmom
Meanwhile, a Hilton representative somehow got wind of this, and offered the Keefes a room at a local Hilton Garden Inn.
#greenscreen @hilton i love you
Kylie and Aiden stayed there while Erika and JJ and the dogs made do in the tiny house. Here’s her video of the Hilton property (they even left her a bottle of champagne!):
It didn’t end there, though. Airbnb also gave Kylie a $500 credit – just because, LOL!
#greenscreen I’d never cheat on @hilton but @airbnb I’d give you a big kiss
BUT WAIT, THERE’S MORE!
The story, of course, got a lot of publicity. One version of it, in particular, was from Insider. They contacted the tiny house’s owner, Courtney Chichester. SHE told Insider that the family booked the home for only 2 adults, not 4, and they didn’t mention any (fully grown) children or the labradoodles. She also made her own video to prove as such:
Kylie replied back on her TikTok that JJ had said 4 people were staying there:
Reply to @fe616 stop gaslighting me
No response from Chichester, or VBRO for that matter. However the listing now says that the space can hold 3 adults and dogs are OK. So there ya go.
But yeah – some people should not have the responsibility of making hotel reservations. 😉
