Starbucks Summer Game – More Of The Same Mixed With A Candy Crush-ish Game

by joeheg

It’s gotten to the point where we shouldn’t expect anything different from Starbucks promotions. They’re essentially the same contest with a different theme and some added feature that has nothing to do with the promo.

This time, the promotion is called Starbucks Summer Game – Road to Paradise.

If you’ve played the most recent Starbucks games, this one follows the same playbook. Earn game plays with Starbucks in-store purchases, completing tasks or filling out an online form. With each spin, you have a chance to earn a postcard towards the grand prize, an instant win prize or a booster for the promotion’s side game.

That’s the hook with this promo. There’s a side game similar to Bejeweled or Candy Crush and some of the main game “prizes” are “power-ups” to help you along. While you might think there’s some award for playing the side game, there’s not. It’s just there to play. It’s fun but nothing more than a time suck.

As far as games go, once you learn the rules it’s easy to blow through the first few levels with not much effort.

Getting back to the promotion, the grand prize(s) is a 2023 Volvo XC40 Recharge. You’re in the running to win if you get all 4 postcards. Three are freely awarded and one is the rare card.

There are no other prizes where you need to collect game pieces, as all of the other prizes, from a $100 gift card to 5 stars,  are instant winners. Unlike other contests, I won bonus stars twice on my first day playing.

I’m not sure about the number of instant winners but I have a feeling that Starbucks learned that people would rather win a little prize of 5 stars instead of playing every day and winning nothing.

You can register your Starbucks account and play the summer game at https://www.starbuckssummergame.com/.
