Sign Up Now For IHG’s Summer Promotion

by joeheg

IHG promotions are a regular occurrence. As one promotion period is approaching the end, IHG announces a new one. There was a bit of a gap between promotions this time, as the last offer ended on March 31st. IHG used to offer some quirky promotions with the ability to earn points by completing a series of tasks (for example, staying at different brands, number of different properties, or even booking a points+cash reservation).

Before 2020, these promos had gone away in favor of IHG targeting road warriors and only offering points for multiple stays. For the last two years, IHG pivoted to offering blanket bonus point offers (such as 2X points for all stays.) I don’t know if this is a sign that IHG sees a trend, but the new promo goes back to the old formula of rewarding the people who travel around the most.

From May 18, 2022, to August 31, 2022, IHG One Rewards members who enroll in the promotion will earn the following bonus points for eligible stays.

  • 2X points on nights 2-5
  • 3X points on nights 6-14
  • 4X points on nights 15+

Bonus points are issued on the base points earned for the stay, not including any bonus points based on the member’s status level. IHG Rewards members earn 10 points per dollar spent at most IHG hotels, except for Staybridge Suites and Candlewood Suites, where you earn 5 points per dollar. Members can earn a maximum of 100,000 bonus points during the duration of the promo.

You can register until the end of the promotion but only stays made after registration will earn bonus points. Here’s a link to register.

IHG One Rewards members who have a co-brand IHG card issued by Chase are eligible for an additional bonus.

  • Earn 3,000 bonus points after your 3rd night
  • Earn an additional 3,000 points after the 6th night.

Eligible Chase co-brand cards are:

  • IHG® Premier Card
  • IHG® Traveler Card
  • IHG® Select Card
  • IHG® Classic Card
  • IHG® Business Card

If you’d want to read the full terms of the promotion and frequently asked questions, you can find them here.

I say that it’s always best to sign up for these promotions when you see them, even if you think you’re not going to be staying at an IHG property in the next few months. Nothing is lost if you don’t use this promotion.

The only downside of the promotion’s structure is that you won’t earn any bonus points for the first night. However, staying at an IHG hotel for over 15 nights this summer will earn over 40 points per dollar spent for each subsequent stay, which is pretty good.

When I tried to sign up for this, it asked for a promo code… any thoughts?

If you click on the image it takes you to the offer. I also fixed the link in the article. Thanks.
