How Desperate Is Las Vegas That They’re Offering ME Comps?

by joeheg

I joined the MLife program back in 2017 when I was looking for a room to stay in Las Vegas. While I’d not spent a dollar in Vegas as a member of the program, just enrolling gave me access to discounts better than I could find anywhere else.

Thanks to an AMEX offer and a discounted rate, we ended up staying at the Hilton Grand Vacations on Paradise.

However, if you’re going to Las Vegas, you need to sign up for the loyalty programs. That’s how I found the cheapest tickets to see The Beatles LOVE by Cirque du Soleil at The Mirage. In fact, the ticket purchase earned me points in the MLife loyalty program.

Ever since I’ve received emails offering me discounts on rooms, invites to artists in residence and bonuses for their online casino. I’m not a buyer but the offers weren’t annoying enough for me to try and cancel the emails.

Then I received this email offer.

I found it funny for MGM to say that I “EARNED” two comp nights because I did nothing to earn any benefit.

However, I was intrigued, as the last time we visited Las Vegas was our Southwestern US trip in 2017. While I’m not a huge fan of Vegas, I like to visit every once in a while to remind myself why I’m not crazy about going. There are enough new things since our last visit where we could spend a few nights and keep ourselves busy.

When I clicked on the link, I was shown the options of MGM resorts I could visit. While I had 2 comp nights at the Park MGM, which is compelling since it’s a non-smoking property, I also had the option to stay at any of the other hotels at a discounted rate. Since it’s a 5-hour flight to Vegas from Orlando, it’s not a reasonable place to visit for only 2 nights.

While a $55 rate at the Delano was appealing, I was drawn to the three comp nights at the Luxor.

I know they’re run-down and not the best rooms in Vegas, but I’ve always wanted to stay in one of the pyramid rooms at the Luxor.

I found dates we could work with and with two comp nights (and one for $13), we can stay for three nights for $118 thanks to the $35 a night resort fee.

What would we get for the fee?

Great, we’ll get free WiFi for our stay and access to the fitness center.

I have a few more days to decide if I want to take advantage of the offer. The rooms at the Park MGM aren’t much more than the Luxor. But paying $13 plus the resort fee for 3 nights in Vegas is the closest I’m going to get to a free room. Pity I don’t have Hyatt status to match to MGM Rewards so I could have the hotel waive the resort fee.
