Starbucks’ New Contest Is As Exciting As Its Name

by joeheg

I’ve become numb to Starbucks’ online contests. To their credit, they did try something different this time. I just don’t know who thought this was a good idea.

The contest is called Starbucks Prize & Delight and it’s based on scratch-off lottery tickets. For me, the only thing less exciting than scratching off a real ticket is moving my mouse over a virtual one.

To be fair, the method of the contest doesn’t matter. Everyone’s more interested in winning a prize and at least this one has prizes that people want to win.

The instant win prizes are Starbucks gift cards and bonus stars. There are 12 grand prizes of a year worth of free Starbucks drinks.

Every day you’ll get a new ticket and can earn extra plays by meeting challenges. Several are easy to accomplish and you can apply for extra entries every day without making a purchase.

The big difference between this and Starbucks’ last contest is that your extra plays don’t continue to add up when you log in. You’ll only see the plays you earned that day.

The game card is three rows. There are no rules but I’m guessing you win by matching three symbols on any of the lines. After playing for a few days, I won by matching stars on the third line.

I won 25 stars which immediately showed up in my account.

The contest is running now through March 28th. Good luck!

Maybe Starbucks hired the ad agency that Shoney’s uses. You know, the agency that came up with the catchy line “Ya gotta eat!”. Prize winning material.
