New Airline Added To TSA PreCheck & CLEAR’s In Another Airport

by SharonKurheg

It’s been a big week for people who want to skip the queues at the TSA security checkpoints!

We wrote the other day that 6 airports across the country, one each in Florida, California, Texas and Washington, and 2 in the NYC area, are offering “skip the regular queue” options during the holiday season.

If you happen to be flying out of one of the airports in question and don’t have TSA PreCheck or CLEAR Plus, these options could potentially save you a whole lot of time. Unfortunately, none of them work in conjunction with TSA PreCheck or CLEAR Plus, so if you have either of those, you can use the new options, but they won’t save you any extra time.

That being said, there are some updates to both TSA PreCheck and CLEAR that will make some passengers very happy:

TSA PreCheck

The TSA announced today that its PreCheck expedited screening program is expanding again. Effective December 20, Avelo Airlines has been added to the list of airlines that can be used in conjunction with PreCheck. This brings the number of airlines participating with PreCheck to 82.

From the TSA:

Avelo, with bases at Los Angeles’ Hollywood Burbank Airport and Southern Connecticut’s Tweed-New Haven Airport, offers non-stop flights to popular smaller and more convenient airport destinations that include wine regions, national parks, and cultural centers throughout the Mountain and Pacific time zones and sunny vacation destinations across Florida.

Formerly Casino Express Airlines, then Xtra Airlines, Avelo Airlines is an ultra low cost carrier (think along the lines of Spirit, Frontier and Allegiant), with advertised flights starting at $29. Its first flight was in April 2021.

Here’s Avelo’s current route map:

CLEAR

Meanwhile, CLEAR is expanding as well, this time in Ohio. Already established in airports in Cleveland, and Cincinnati, the subscription-based service that allows customers to verify their identities using fingerprint, face and eye scans just opened in Columbus, at the John Glenn Columbus International Airport (CMH).

The new CLEAR access at CMT can be found at the Main Terminal, as per CLEAR’S website. This brings CLEAR access to 55 locations (including 34 airports).
