Use This Trick To Listen To Your Favorite Music Stations Anywhere Around The World

by joeheg

Over the past several years we’ve taken more road trips than ever before. During those long drives, it’s nice to have some great music in the car to help pass the time. We enjoy switching between a few SiriusXM channels to mix it up a bit. We listened to Road Trip Radio for the entire drive to Hilton Head Island.

But what if you’re taking a road trip on the other side of the world?

I remember when we rented a car in Iceland, which was the first time I ever drove a car outside the US. I knew we would be spending lots of time in the car, and I didn’t want to depend on Icelandic radio stations for entertainment. Instead, I streamed SiriusXM for our entire trip using the rental car’s Wi-Fi hub.

Once connected to the Wi-Fi, I used the SiriusXM app to listen to our favorite stations. Here we are driving up to Hotel Lækur while listening to ’80s on 8.

Since SiriusXM is only available in the US, Canada, and Puerto Rico, I turned on my VPN and set it to connect in the US to get this to work. The same thing should work for other streaming services like Spotify, Amazon Music and Pandora.

I was impressed with the connectivity available throughout Iceland. We stuck to the main roads (or short drives off of them to our hotels), and we had decent internet with the Wi-Fi hub plugged into the cigarette lighter (or are we now referring to that as the auxiliary power outlet).

If you have SiriusXM (or any music player that has an app on your phone), the addition of a VPN allows you to listen to your favorite stations wherever you want. Really, wherever in the world you’d want to listen to Christopher Cross.
