In 2016, American Airlines started a partnership with Stand Up To Cancer, a 501(c)(3) charitable organization that raises funds “to accelerate the pace of research to get new therapies to patients quickly and save lives now.”
Tangible proof of the partnership can be found on an American Airlines Airbus 321 with tail number N162AA.
In 2019, you could add the name of a cancer survivor, patient, or someone you lost to cancer for a donation of $25 or more. In all, there are 22,627 names on the plane, including the name of my father-in-law, who battled cancer until it eventually took him away from us.
This year they aren’t doing anything as extravagant as creating a new livery. However, American is again offering AAdvantage members the chance to earn 25 AAdvantage miles for every dollar you give on a donation of $25 or more, You can double the power of your donation by using a Mastercard to make your donation. American, with the support of Mastercard, will match donations, dollar for dollar, up to $1 million dollars.
Donations can be made at https://standuptocancer.org/american-airlines-donate-25/
The promotion ends on September 18th, so you have a few more days to join me and kick in some dollars to make a difference.
