A man learned the hard way never to enter a plane and sit in a particular seat the way he did. Then again, the fact that he walked through an airport’s runway area, sneaked onto an empty commercial airplane and was on his way to sitting in the cockpit had a lot to do with his arrest.
According to WNYT in Albany NY, 23-year-old Stan Johnson had a very busy day.
As per Albany County Sheriff Craig Apple, he allegedly stole a car in Boston and drove it to the Bronx, which was where Johnson lived. He then abandoned the car in the Bronx. Sometime after that, he made it up to Albany, NY, where he was involved in a domestic dispute. He fled the altercation and wound up at Albany International Airport. He breached the perimeter fence, then the jetway. As he was in the plane’s boarding area and going towards the cockpit, he was stopped by a TSA agent.
When asked why he was there, Johnson said he wanted to sit in the cockpit and get the same feeling and sensation they did on 9/11.
Needless to say, Johnson was then taken to a local psychiatric facility for a mental health evaluation. However he was soon released.
Johnson was charged with criminal trespass, and his arrest information was forwarded to the FBI for follow-up.
Meanwhile, the airport’s k-9 team searched the airport and all planes on the ground, but nothing suspicious was found. A spokesman for the airport said they would be conducting a full comprehensive investigation of their own, in conjunction with Albany County Airport Authority and the TSA.
