Choose Wisely: Chase Is Offering Bonus Miles To Co-Brand Cardholders

by joeheg

We’re at a time when no news is surprising. When I saw a post that Chase was offering spending bonuses to co-brand cardholders, I couldn’t believe it was true. Doctor of Credit reported that most of Chase’s co-brand partners were offering bonuses for spending from April until the end of June.

By putting your account information into this link, you could see if you were targeted for an offer. This link led to a rather nondescript page.

I trusted the source so I entered the account information for my World of Hyatt card.

5x times bonus points for $1,500 of purchases on the World of Hyatt Card? That’s 7,500 Hyatt points. You better believe I’m going to max out this offer because Hyatt points are the most valuable hotel points out there.

What other cards that we had were eligible? The next most valuable offer was for 5x points on our Marriott Bonvoy Chase card.

The most interesting thing was that Sharon and I received different offers for our IHG Select cards. There’s some debate on the value of IHG points but I’m still willing to collect them for future use.

One of our cards offered 5x points on up to $1,500 of purchases.

Another less valuable offer was for 5,000 bonus points when spending $3,000 between now and the end of June. I think I’m going to pass on this offer.

Some of our Chase co-brand cards received no offers, like my Disney Visa card and my IHG Premier card.

There’s nothing to lose to check if you’re targeted for this offer if you hold any co-brand credit card from Chase.  Several cards, including Starbucks, British Airways and United cards are reported to have targeted offers. Earning 5x points on everyday spending is better than the 2% you’ll earn with most cash-back cards.

If you don’t mind sharing, what were the offers for IHG and Southwest? 5X or a bonus for spending a specific amount?

All were 5X.

The only Chase co branded card I have is United Explorer and yes, I did get that offer (5x up to $1500 spend). Will be using it for sure, but wish it would have been UR points instead as I already have over 400K United miles.

I’m sure there’s a reason for that, not the least that Chase is probably spending points purchased at a discount instead of issuing bonus points which will stand against their P/L statement.
