New Harry Potter Attraction To Open In Tokyo

by SharonKurheg

If there was ever a reason to want to be able to travel to Japan again, this is it!

Warner Bros. Studio Tours and Warner Bros. Japan have announced they’re planning to open The Making of Harry Potter experience in Japan.

The Wizarding World of Harry Potter opened in Universal Studios Japan, in Osaka, in 2014. However, the Making of Harry Potter will be a completely different experience. The new 30,000 square meter attraction will be more of a behind-the-scenes look at the making of the Harry Potter movies, and will be more along the lines of the Making of Harry Potter studio tour near London.

The Making of Harry Potter will be a half-day tour that will transport guests through sound stages and backlot areas. The attraction will include film sets of the Hogwart’s Great Hall, the Forbidden Forest, and Diagon Alley. Authentic costumes and props from the movies will be exhibited and, unlike the London attraction, the Tokyo tour will also include details from the “Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them” spin-off series of films.

The attraction will be in Tokyo’s Nerima Ward on land where the 94-year-old Toshimaen theme park currently sits. Toshimaen is scheduled to close at the end of August. The property is on the Seibu Railway line and within easy access to Tokyo’s shopping and dining hubs of Shibuya and Shinjuku.

The new attraction is currently scheduled to open in 2023.

Joe and I are both big Harry Potter fans and have been able to visit a lot of places where they made the films, as well as the Making of Harry Potter studio outside of London. Our November 2020 trip to Japan is canceled and we hope to go in 2021 instead. However, I could see another visit to the country a few years after that. If so, this new attraction will definitely be on our list!
