Walt Disney World and Disneyland, like any good theme park, have always had their share of signature snacks. Over the years, Dole Whips, Mickey ice cream bars, citrus swirls, churros and pretzels shaped like Mickey Mouse’s head have made their debut at the parks. They sit alongside more traditional snacks such as popcorn and soft-serve ice cream.
Snacks weren’t always at the forefront of Disney foods, though. Not like they are today.
As far back as 2012 or so, Disney snacks were plentiful but still relatively mundane. The aforementioned popcorn (sponsored by Orville Redenbacher!). A container of nachos with a glob of florescent orange cheese product. Huge chocolate chip cookies at the bakery on Main Street.
But then the “snack explosion” started and people had become more and more interested in Disney snacks. They were much more popular and, of course, Disney was more than willing to comply, if it meant more sales. So they made their snacks more varied. More Instagramable. They even made a Disney Dining Plan category specifically for snacks!
There were more and more snacks to choose from, but the old favorites remained old favorites. And one of the grandaddies of old favorites are Disney’s turkey legs.
But they’re not just any turkey legs. These are ginormous turkey legs. They’re called a snack but really, they could easily be a meal all by themselves for some people (and I fully admit to having done just that on more than one occasion).
