Airline Warns Of Phishing Scam For Coronavirus-Related Refunds

by SharonKurheg

In the first few weeks that coronavirus started to rear its head in a huge way, a few of my friends noticed something very interesting…robocalls stopped. It was one pleasant thing in this new, different, sad and anxiety-provoking world of unpleasantness.

Of course, the good times couldn’t last forever and I don’t know about you, but I’m back to getting several robocalls every day again.

Meanwhile, phishing scams never ended.  And airline customers appear to be the latest potential victims of them.

Emirates Airlines, Dubai’s flagship airline, has recently warned its customers about such emails.

“We’ve been alerted to recent email phishing attacks that contain the subject ‘Your flight is cancelled: collect your refund’. These are not emails sent from Emirates,” wrote the airline.

“Please be careful to protect your personal information and don’t respond or click on links in such emails. The easiest way to detect a fake email is to look at the email address it was sent from. All official emails from Emirates are sent from one of these two email addresses: emirates@e.emirates.email or do-not-reply@emirates.email,” added the airline.

To prevent the spread of coronavirus, the airline temporarily suspended all passenger service on March 25, as per the Dubai government’s directive. Their website (News Flash dated April 2, 2020) has the proper channels to use to request a Travel Voucher.
