How NOT To Videotape Your Vacation (Take Two)

by SharonKurheg

Several months back, we wrote about an older gentleman from England, Howard Newman, who borrowed his son’s GoPro and wound up videotaping his entire vacation with the camera facing the wrong direction. So what he thought would be memories of his trip to the Netherlands turned out to be hours of video of his face (click here for a Reader’s Digest condensed version of the footage).

If it’s any solace whatsoever, Mr. Newman doesn’t have to have the claim to fame of being the only one to ever do such a thing.

Mr. Newman, meet Mr. Griffin…

Joseph Griffin, a resident of Ireland, also borrowed his son’s GoPro for an upcoming vacation. However unlike Mr. Newman, who just didn’t understand the directions his son gave him, Mr. Griffin just never bothered to ask. As per his son, Evan:

“So… Gave my Dad my GoPro while he was in Las Vegas, I did not, however, instruct him on how to use it, so my dad being my dad, and a culchie [ETA: Irish origin. Someone who lives in the countryside, near fields, cows, farms. May be offensive in context. Roughly equivalent to American “red necks.”] didn’t know which way to point the f***ing thing…”

Here’s the footage:

Evan did some fun video editing, but I think it’s some of the comments that I like best:

  • A Dad with a GoPro is like a box of chocolates. You never know what you gonna get.
  • Does it get more dad than this?! Haha
  • you can take the man out of cork, but you can’t take cork out of the man
Aren’t dads and technology entertaining? 🙂 When my mom and step-dad got married, my dad attempted to videotape the wedding for my uncle. He thought he was doing a good job until my uncle saw my dad afterwards and replied “Hey! You forgot to take the lens cap off!” Luckily I was next to Dad and taped everything with my OWN camera, which had everything, including my uncle and Dad commenting on the lens cap. 🙂

And the one I liked the best:

From GoPro’s official account: Classic dad move! Which GoPro was he using? We may have a few accessories that could help him out. #GoPro
