This Airport Is Really Getting Into The Spirit Of The Season, But Not The Way You’d Think

by joeheg

There’s no way when flying into Orlando International Airport (MCO) that you’re not going to know that you’ve entered the center of the theme park universe. There are souvenir shops for all of the major parks (Disney has two stores, one for each side of the terminal and you’ll also find stores for Universal Studios, SeaWorld and the Kennedy Space Center). The airport also does a good job decorating for the holidays, with a huge tree in the atrium and holiday entertainment by local performers.

However, when I say they’re getting into the spirit of the season, I’m not talking about Christmas. I’m talking about Star Wars.

Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge has been open for a while now and the blockbuster ride “Rise of the Resistance” has debuted to massive crowds and incredible reviews. The final film of the Star Wars Saga, Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker is opening in a few days.

So it’s only fitting that Orlando Airport has transformed its APM (Automated People Movers) stations into the Black Spire Outpost, located on the planet Batuu. No surprise, this is also the location of the land in Disney’s Hollywood Studios theme park.

So I know this is just one big advertisement for Disney World but if I was a Star Wars fan and landed in Orlando to visit Galaxy’s Edge, I’d be totally psyched.
