What Should I Order? I’ve Never Booked A Meal On A Plane

I’ve booked some really nice flights for us but for an upcoming flight, I’ll be able to do something I’ve never done before. I’ll get to choose my meal ahead of time.

For all of our previous business class trips, all we’ve gotten is to choose from the options available on the menu. That means on most flights we’ve gotten to choose from three or four dishes usually consisting of beef, chicken, fish or pasta. The presentation might be fancier and occasionally there will be something like a lamb dish available but if you’ve seen one in-flight meal, you’ve seen them all. Or maybe not.

One time we tried to order the Japanese meal on a flight but by the time the flight attendant got to our seats, it was already gone. We got to choose from steak or pasta.

That’s not going to be a problem on our flight with Singapore Airlines.

Singapore Airlines offers a service called “Book the Cook” where you get to pick out your entree ahead of time by going to their website up to 24 hours before departure.

Book the Cook

Fine dining at 30,000 feet? We’ve confirmed your reservation.

A restaurant setting, a world-class dish… You’ll find everything you need to enjoy an unforgettable dining experience in the air with ‘Book the Cook’ . Choose from a wide selection of meals, including creations inspired by our International Culinary Panel, up to 24 hours before your flight. ‘Book the Cook’ is offered in Suites, First Class and Business Class, and for all meal services except for Continental Breakfast and Refreshment. We also offer ‘Premium Economy Book the Cook’ service in Premium Economy Class.

Your ‘Book the Cook’ choice will be served as the main course of your inflight menu.

Look at all the choices. There are six Asian selections:

There are also eight Western selections:

The problem is now that I don’t know what to choose. Because we’re flying from New York, we don’t get to try the legendary Lobster Thermidor. Several of the other dishes look good but I’m still wavering.

The Braised Short Ribs sounds yummy and I’m leaning that way. Sharon’s going to play it safe and ordering the Prime Beef Filet. How are those choices? Is there anything else on the menu that’s a can’t miss dish?

I can’t believe that this is now something that I get to worry about when planning for my flight. Remember when we just ate what the airlines fed us and we liked it, that is if they fed us at all.
