Look! Up In The Sky! It’s A Coke Plane! It’s A Pepsi Plane! It’s…

I was on the shuttle bus from my hotel to JFK. I was sharing it with a very friendly group of three people including a husband, a wife, and another adult female. All middle-aged. They had stayed, as they told me, at our hotel for one night as an overnight stop between Paris and their home in Fort Myers. They didn’t fly that far very often, so they wanted to break the trip up a little.

They were getting off at Terminal 2 since they were taking Delta. As we got closer to the terminal, the husband, who was looking out the window, suddenly said, “Oh, look! It’s the Coca-Cola plane!”

I was on the other side of the aisle, so it was a little harder for me to figure out which plane he was referring to from my vantage point, but if a plane had gotten a new livery with Coke as the theme, like the FIFA World Cup Trophy Tour Plane had in 2014, I wanted to get a picture of it, figuring Joe might want to see it.

As I was still scanning for the Coke plane, his wife said, “Oh honey, that’s not a Coca-Cola plane! It’s a Pepsi plane!”

And then I saw the plane he was talking about. We couldn’t see the whole plane at our vantage point, but we got a really good view of the design on the tail. It looked like this:

Korean

I’m not sure what I (inwardly) giggled more at – that the man mistook the Pepsi logo for a Coke logo, or that both he and his wife mistook the Korean Air logo as an American soft drink logo.

I didn’t say anything about it to them. Granted, it would have been a teaching experience, but it also could be embarrassing for them, had I done so. It’s one of those things where, even if you know the right answer, should you correct people?

Although I suppose it could have been worse – he could have said it was a Studebaker  plane 😉

Whatever the case, it still made me smile.

Well at least they didn’t confuse a Delta plane as a Pepsi plane. The folks in Atlanta wouldn’t have appreciated that much 🙂
