Hotel Review: Best Western West Greenwich Inn, West Greenwich, RI

People travel for many reasons. Sometimes it’s to see an amazing place. Other times people want to see a bucket list event, like going to the northern lights or going to see Billy Joel at Madison Square Garden. There are also times when you travel just so you can spend time with those whom you dearly care for. They might be your family, friends or even people whom you’ve never met IRL (In Real Life).

Such is the age we live in that we can become with friends with people whom we’ve never met and there is something special about finally get to see those people in person. That was the reason Sharon traveled to Rhode Island.

The location of the hotel was the most important thing for this trip and since she was dependent on the rest of the group for transportation (renting a car for only herself seemed a waste of money) it made sense to stay at the same place as everyone else.

I’ve already written about how I booked the room through Rocketmiles since we had no status with Best Western. The 3,000 Virgin Atlantic miles showed up in my account less than a week after the stay.

The 56 room Best Western is located in West Greenwich, RI, which is a 30-minute drive from Providence, RI and the hotel gets a 4 rating on TripAdvisor with 468 reviews and a 3.8 rating on Google.

Walking into the room, it’s exactly what you’d expect from an entry-level hotel. The bathroom was located in a room to the left of the entry and the closet area was on the right.

The bed was large but what stood out was the size of the room. It was massive compared to the usual hotel rooms you typically see. Even with a queen-size bed, two nightstands and a loveseat, there was plenty of room.

The room had a simple desk with a plug and functional Wi-Fi. The chair was basic but at least the room still had a chair and a desk. The in-room air conditioner worked well enough for late summer in Rhode Island.

The bathroom was exactly what you’d expect.

These LaCoupe toiletries are based in Ontario, Canada and they’re measured in grams so they must be fancy.

What might be unexpected from a Best Western hotel is an indoor swimming pool

and a fitness center

The hotel also offers a complementary Continental Breakfast (Note from Sharon: I was never awake early enough to enjoy it)

The hotel was not first-class as there wasn’t much room to hang clothes (and that’s an interesting place for an ice bucket)

The towels and pillows had something to be desired

and the room showed signs that it had seen better days

Final thoughts

In the end, none of the “issues” with the room affected Sharon’s stay one bit. In the end, when you’re booking a basic room, isn’t all that you’re looking for?

The location was why she stayed there. Now, a lousy hotel could have ruined her trip but that’s not the case. The hotel was fine. While some will find a fault with that word taking it to mean it wasn’t nice, they’re mistaken. The hotel neither added nor subtracted from the experience of the trip and when you’re just looking for a place to stay for the night, isn’t that all you want?

I’d say when a hotel provides exactly what you need, that’s a win for everyone.

There was also a bottle opener mounted on the wall in the bathroom in mine and Kevin’s room. Convenient for the ever-necessary shower beer, LOL!!
