Nostalgia is hot. Movies are hot. And nostalgia about movies is super hot. Actually, it always has been, but a generation ago you couldn’t just log onto a computer and follow the path of, for example, a couple who went to a bunch of locations where they filmed the Harry Potter movies. But nowadays, thanks to the internet, it’s easy to find those kinds of places…
- The Steel Magnolias house is a bed & breakfast
- The castle in The Rocky Horror Picture Show is a hotel
- The site of Friday The 13th’s Camp Crystal Lake does tours and sleepovers
- There was a Downton Abbey themed cruise that included a visit to the main filming location for the TV series
- The small town that turns itself into a Harry Potter themed wonderland every year
So is it surprising that there’s a Dirty Dancing festival held at the lake where Baby and Johnny’s iconic water scene was filmed? Of course not! Here’s more about it…
This will be the 10th annual Dirty Dancing Festival, which is held in the adorable mountain town of Lake Lure, North Carolina, in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains.
Held on September 13 and 14 this year, the festival is a weekend of all things Dirty Dancing. They do a lakeside screening of the film, offer dance lessons (followed by an amateur shag competition), have a talent show and a watermelon carrying contest, and the highlight of the weekend, the lake lift competition (they even give you tips so you don’t make a fool out of yourself LOL)! They also offer food and drink, arts and crafts and live 60s music.
Tickets are $10 for Friday and $25 for Saturday and they give you the opportunity to make a donation to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network (PanCAN is the global leader in the fight against pancreatic cancer through the mission of scientific research, patient services, and waging hope for those, like Patrick Swayze had been, who are affected).
