A Once-In-A-Lifetime Behind-The-Scenes Tour Of A Beloved Candy Factory (And Nope, It’s Not Willy Wonka)

by SharonKurheg

Everyone likes Peeps, right? Well, not EVERYone everyone. Our friend Scott hates them with a passion. And I know there are some other folks who think Peeps are for the birds. But everyone else? Yeah, they pretty much like ’em.

Introduced in 1953 and currently part of the Just Born Quality Confections parent company, Peeps are made in a factory in Bethlehem PA. Unlike Jelly Bellies jelly beans, Hershey’s chocolate, Pez candy, Ben & Jerry’s ice cream and other confectionery companies that offer tours, the factory has never been open to the public.

Well, until now.

Just Born recently announced that Peeps is raising money through a partnership with the United Way of the Greater Lehigh Valley by launching a nationwide sweepstakes.

Just Born Quality Confections PEEPS--Helping-Peeps

PC: Just Born Quality Confections

Here’s what you can get if you win:

“Although we’ve had many requests and lots of fans show up at our doors over the years, the PEEPS factory has never been open to the public,” Matt Pye, SVP of Sales and Marketing at Just Born, said in a release. “The winner of our PEEPS Helping Peeps Sweepstakes will embark upon a once-in-a-lifetime tour of our factory and witness first-hand how our iconic PEEPS marshmallow is made.”

The “peepstakes” (I would love to say that I coined that phrase. I didn’t.) will run through April 8, and the winner will be announced on or around April 12.

To enter the sweepstakes, fans are encouraged to donate five dollars to United Way of Greater Lehigh Valley by visiting unitedwayglv.org/peeps or by texting “peepsunited” to 40403. Either way, the donation will go towards supporting community schools in the area, including pre-school scholarships, mentoring, summer learning experiences,
mental health services, after-school programs and more.

Here’s the fine print for the sweepstakes:

NO PURCHASE NECESSARY. Void where prohibited. Open to legal residents of 50 U.S./DC, 18+ (19+ in NE & AL; 21+ in MS) at entry. Begins 12:01 AM ET on 12/30/18; ends 11:59 PM ET on 4/8/19.  3 ways to enter:  (1) Text “peepsunited” to 40403 to donate to United Way of the Greater Lehigh Valley Campaign 2018. Message & data rates apply.  Check your carrier for details. By texting, you authorize Sponsor and/or Administrator to use an ATDS to send marketing information to the number you provide. Consent is not required to make a purchase. Text HELP for help, STOP to unsubscribe. (2) Donate online. Odds of winning depend on number of entries received. For complete rules and eligibility requirements, visit www.unitedwayglv.org/peeps. Sponsor: United Way of the Greater Lehigh Valley. Oh, and another cool thing? The City Center Next Century Challenge will match all new and increased gifts to United Way of the Greater Lehigh Valley up to $1 million through March 31, 2019, thanks to City Center Allentown.

If you decide to enter so you can possibly win a trip to hang out with your peeps…at Peeps…good luck!
