I’m a big fan of American Express’ AMEX Offers. If you have an American Express card, you can log in to your account online and see any number of offers available on your account. They may be for restaurants, hotels, online shopping or anything else you would pay for with your AMEX card. Taking advantage of these offers for “free money” or bonus points is one way you can recoup the cost of a card’s annual fee or the offers can even be money makers if you play your cards right. I’ve strategically used these offers in the past, like during our stay at a Hilton in Las Vegas or when I put in an order from Boxed. Recently, the offers on the AMEX site have been underwhelming so I haven’t bothered signing up for them. I’ll still look at the e-mails that AMEX sends me about the new offers and the one I received today stopped me in my tracks.
You need to understand. Getting bonus points from Amazon purchases is very uncommon. JetBlue used to let you earn TrueBlue points for purchases made through their website portal but they did away with that months ago, except for purchases made while you’re flying.
I quickly logged into Sharon’s and my American Express accounts and we’ve both been targeted for this offer.
For the next month, Amazon.com purchases will earn three Membership Rewards points per dollar spent. I plan on adding this offer to our Amex Everyday Preferred card because we get a 50% bonus on all purchases if we make 30 transactions in a month. So we will earn 3.5 Membership Rewards points per dollar on Amazon purchases (bonus points are excluded from the 50% benefit). It’s really too bad we’re not flying on JetBlue because I’d imagine the two offers would stack on top of one another to earn 3 AMEX points and 3 JetBlue points for purchases made during a flight.
I’d suggest looking at your American Express account and see if you have any cards with this offer. It’s only on cards that earn Membership Rewards so a Hilton, Delta or Starwood card won’t help you here.
