If you haven’t heard the exciting news yet, VooDoo Doughnut’s newest location is going to be at Universal CityWalk, at Universal Orlando Resort. After visiting their Portland location in 2015 and getting the best kind of heartburn ever thanks to eating one of their maple bacon doughnuts, I am all KINDS of excited about this!
Although the Universal Orlando location doesn’t have an opening date yet (closest we have so far is “Spring 2018,” which is kinda vague LOLOL!), we DO now have a menu, so at least we have something to drool over…
This is hot off the presses, y’all! And LOOK! There are actually over 50 varieties, 13 of which are Vegan! (click here for Universal’s direct page – the printing will be bigger).
We heard from someone “in the know” that because of the some select “adult” names, not all of the original VooDoo Doughnuts made the cut, to help ensure some degree of “family friendliness” at Universal. Granted, some just have a different name, such as “ODB,” to protect the innocent. But some simply aren’t there, period. I find that to be a personal travesty because the VD Doughnut I wanted to try next was, well, I’m not going to name it cuz we try to have a degree of family friendliness here at YMMV too, but the description is, “…shaped raised yeast doughnut, triple filled with Bavarian cream and topped with chocolate frosting.” It sounded awesome, despite its decidedly adult name (Click here to go to VooDoo Doughnut’s Portland menu to see which ones I’m talking about – and to figure out which other ones won’t be on the menu at Universal Orlando, either as original name or at all, possibly because of their names. “Maple Blazer Blunt?” Yeah, no surprise there, either). Oh well, at least they’re still using, “Good Things Come In Pink Boxes” and “The Magic Is In The Hole.” 😉
Because we’ve been selected to throw beads at Universal’s’s Mardi Gras celebration several times, we’ve been able to see the progress of them building the Universal VDD location (BTW, it’s wedged between the NBC Sports Grill & Brew and Bread Box Hand Crafted Sandwiches) and it’s getting there, slowly but surely. But trust me, we’re anxiously awaiting the news that they’re ready to open!
