Hotel promotions seem to be a trend right now, with hotel brands often announcing the next promotion before the current one is even over. Some of them, like IHG’s Accelerate promo, allow you to find the best way to meet the tasks you are assigned to get the bonus. Others are downright uninspiring like the current Hilton promotion. Every once in a while there is a promotion that comes along that could possibly be very lucrative.
Wyndham hotels recently announced their promotion for stays from February 5, 2018 that are completed by July 1, 2018. If you sign up for the promotion and make two qualifying stays during the promotional period, you earn 15,000 Wyndham Rewards points. Since Wyndham Rewards offers a flat pricing of 15,000 points for a free night at any of their hotels, this bonus will pay for a free night.

Now I’ll admit Wyndham doesn’t have many aspirational properties and therefore gets little love from most websites. As a reminder, here’s the list of the hotels owned by them:

You can get the most value from this promotion if you stay twice at a low cost Wyndham property (and Wyndham has plenty of low cost hotels to choose from). Any room over $25 (before fees and taxes) counts for the promotion. You could then use the 15,000 points to book a room at the Wyndham Grand Orlando Resort Bonnet Creek.
This hotel is surrounded by Walt Disney World (you have to drive through Disney property to get there) and usually goes for over $200 a night.
Obviously this promotion is great if you already were staying at one of the Wyndham brands or could change your plans for two stays over the next five months. If so, enjoy your free night!
If you aren’t already staying at a Wyndham hotel, some people are considering simply booking a cheap room for two stays just to get the 15,000 points. You just need to show up to the hotel to check in and then leave. I’m not a big fan of this practice, often called “mattress running,” as you pay for a room you don’t need. Essentially you’re just paying to buy 15,000 Wyndham points. Frequent travelers will say they’ll always find a use for 15,000 Wyndham points that’s more valuable than the amount paid for the two hotel nights. While that may be true, I’d rather just hold on to my cash. Having enough points for one free night only makes sense if you’re staying somewhere for just one night or already have Wyndham points. Otherwise you’ll need to pay for the other nights or leave for another hotel. I usually have better things to do on vacation than hop from hotel to hotel. Your Mileage May Vary if these techniques make sense for you.
Each Wyndham Rewards member is only eligible for the bonus one time and no-shows do not count as qualifying stays per the official rules.

Capitalized terms used without definition in these promotion terms and conditions (“Promotion Terms”) will have the meanings ascribed to them in the Wyndham Rewards program terms and conditions, available at www.WyndhamRewards.com/terms (the “Program Terms”). Most properties – Go Free award applies to room rate only, including taxes. Member must have enough points for all bedrooms in desired accommodation to book award nights. A per night resort fee is payable for all nights at Caesars hotels, including award nights. Points cannot be used to pay resort fees. Members who have elected to earn airline miles or rail points in their Member profile will earn base miles or rail points in accordance with the Program Terms and the Bonus in the form of points. Maximum of one (1) Bonus per Member (even if such Member completes more than two (2) Offer Qualifying Stays). A no-show does not count as an Offer Qualifying Stay.
