Sign Up Now To Earn Bonus Points At Hilton Hotels in 2018

by joeheg

‘Tis the season. Not the holiday season silly, it’s the season where hotels are announcing their promotions for the start of 2018. Hilton’s Double Up promotion is still running through December 31, 2017 but that hasn’t kept them from launching their new promotion, called Points Unlimited, that starts with stays on and after January 1, 2018.

Screen Shot 2017-12-20 at 10.56.38 PMI signed up for the promotion through an email I received from Hilton that had a link to register. Unlike in the past, where I needed to change my password to a weaker version to enroll for Hilton’s promotions, this time I was able to enroll just by clicking the email. I’ll give Hilton some credit for finally fixing this glitch in their system after, oh I dunno, two years or so.

Hilton’s last promo offered double points for stays, however this time they’re offering 2,000 bonus points for every stay and an additional 10,000 points for every 5 stays.

Unless you make a bunch of single night stays in lower priced Hilton hotels, this isn’t a very valuable bonus. Hilton points tend to be worth less because they’re just so darn easy to earn. Base level Hilton Honors members receive 10 points per dollar spent. So if you are paying $150 a night and stay for 2 nights you’d earn 3,000 points. That’s not taking into account any bonus for being a Silver, Gold or Diamond member which gives anywhere from 15% to 50% bonus points. If you’ve selected to receive Points and Points (instead of getting airline miles) you’d also earn an additional 5 points per dollar.

I don’t know about you but if I was a Hilton Gold guest considering a two night stay at the Walforf=Astoria Casa Marina in Key West, where rooms are going for $450 a night, and I’d already receive 15,750 points for my stay,  so an offer of 2,000 bonus points for a promotion seems a bit low and not going to influence where I’m going to stay.

Here’s the specifics on the promotion from Hilton’s website:

Offer valid January 1, 2018, through April 30, 2018 (“Promotion Period”) at any hotel or resort within the Hilton Portfolio excluding Hampton by Hilton Hotels in Mainland China. Hilton Honors members must first register at HiltonHonors.com/PointsUnlimited prior to completing a stay within the Promotion Period. Registered Hilton Honors members will only receive Bonus Points for nights completed during the Promotion Period, regardless of a check-in date before the Promotion Period begins or a check-out date after the Promotion Period ends. Registered Hilton Honors members will earn 2,000 Bonus Points per stay during the Promotion Period. Registered members will also receive an additional 10,000 Bonus Points for every 5 stays completed during the Promotion Period. There is no limit to the total amount of Bonus Points that may be earned during the Promotion Period with this offer. However, there are restrictions on the amount of Base Points that can be earned on a single stay at certain brands. See Hilton Honors Terms and Conditions for more details. Bonus Points earned on Base Points do not count toward tier qualification. Please allow six to eight weeks from completion of your stay for points to appear in your Hilton Honors account.

Just note the part where you need to register for the promotion before COMPLETING A STAY. So even if you’ve already checked in, you should be able to enroll before checking out and still be eligible for your points.

No matter how small the bonus, I’d still suggest enrolling now by clicking clicking here. You never know when you might need to make an emergency stay at a Hilton hotel and why throw away 2,000 points.
